FruCon III

February 19, 2000 Toronto, ON -Courtyard by Marriott

FrüCon III was a great success, mainly because most of you seem to have had a great time! Hopefully you not only got some time to hang out with your far-flung Frühead friends (say *that* five times fast!), you also got to meet some new people. Thanks to everyone who attended and everyone who helped out.

What we Did

Früheads straggled into Toronto starting as early as Wednesday evening, by some reports. By Thursday evening, both the Colony (the official hotel) and the Courtyard (where the Con was held) check-in desks had a list of activities for underagers and the scavenger hunt item list.

Friday evening heralded the pub crawl, arranged by Doug Levy, gracing various drinking establishments around Toronto.

Saturday - Con Day!
The Con opened around 11 am. While the 'main' activities had yet to start, there was lots to do. In the main room, Früheads amused themselves with this year's crossword puzzle, three Früvous puzzles from the I Will Hold On video shoot (photos courtesy of Susan Messer), and of course a sing-along. There was also a connection running to IRC (laptop courtesy of Kim Sucy) an art table, and a Früfitti sheet where people could scribble messages for the band. On top of all this, there were two TVs running, one with Früvous' music videos, and another with various TV and concert footage from years past.

After people had some time to relax, talk, and get to know one another, it was time for the Open Mic, affectionately referred to as "Proxy Früvous". Participants performed various Moxy Früvous songs and parodies for the audience and judges. Of course, everyone got a prize!

The Question and Answer session followed. This year's panelists included John Schwartz from the Washington Post, Kim Hughes from Toronto's NOW magazine, and Jaymz Bee...entertainer extraordinaire. They regaled the audience with stories, jokes, and engaged in some serious discussion about MP3's.

As the Con wound down, Früvous graced us with their presence and a few rare tunes. This was followed by the raffle of such choice items as two spots on Früvous' guest list for one non-festival show, a spot on the bowling team, the puzzles, a very nice poster and various Früvous merch. Then it was time for clean-up.

Sunday morning marked the end of the weekend of fun, with a brunch at the Colony hotel.
